Panoramic View of the Amstel Looking towards Amsterdam

''Panoramic View of the Amstel Looking towards Amsterdam'' (c. 1681) is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Jacob van Ruisdael. It is in the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK.
The painting shows a panorama of Amsterdam's Amstel river from the south of the city. Such an angle was possible from the tower of the Pauwentuin. Two city gates, Weesper Gate on the right and Utrechtse Gate on the left, are visible. The bridge is the Amstelbrug. The big domed building centre left is the new town hall.
The dimensions are 52 x 66 cm.
This work is one of the last known Ruisdaels as art historian Seymour Slive infers from the appearance of various buildings that are known to have been constructed in 1681. Ruisdael died in Amsterdam on 10 March 1682. The painting is catalogue number 3 in Slive's 2001 catalogue raisonné of Ruisdael.
